STAFF:
MAESTRO JOHN McDOUGALL began fencing at
Stanford University where he was a varsity team member for four years.
During his competitive career he won several Open Championships in San
Francisco and was selected a Western Intercollegiate All-star.
After
graduating, John was privileged to study with three of the greatest
fencers of all time: Maestros Aldo Nadi and Edoardo Mangiarotti of Italy
and Hungarian Olympic Coach George Piller. Among them these
classical fencers won twenty-one Olympic medals (eleven of them gold)
and numerous World Championships. Other Fencing Masters, including
Julius Palffy-Alpar (Hungary), Hans Halberstadt of San Francisco, Jack
Nottingham of Portland and Elwyn Bugge of Stanford University made
important contributions to his training.
John has
international certification as a Master instructor of foil,
epee and saber through the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) and
the Academy d'Armes Internationale (AAI).
John has
taught at Occidental College, the University of California (Berkeley and
Santa Cruz), Stanford University, Halberstadt Fencing Academy, and a
number of other private clubs.
FENCING INSTRUCTOR
RON KILBY
began fencing saber in Germany the 1970s. He is a partner in and
was instrumental in the formation of the Southern Oregon Fencing
Center. He is certified by the United States Fencing
Association (USFA) as an instructor in all three fencing weapons
(foil, epee and saber) and also is certified as a Moniteur fencing
instructor by the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA).
During Summer 2006 and 2007 Ron completed several weeks of intensive coaching
instruction at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado.
He is an enthusiastic three-weapon competitor in both the United States
Fencing Association (USFA) and the American Fencing League (AFL).

INSTRUCTORS INCLUDE:

ELIZABETH WESCHE
has been one of the fencing
center's leading foil fencers, competing in USFA tournaments from San
Francisco to Seattle as well as AFL tournaments. An experienced
tournament director, she directed foil competition in the 2006 American
Fencing League National Division championship tournament.
JOEL KLEPPER
has fenced since college in
Florida and is one of the fencing center's top fencers. He has won AFL
tournaments in both foil and epee competition.
STEVE WESCHE
is one of the partners in Southern
Oregon Fencing Center, and works with beginning fencers.
